Stripe notifications in a Discord channel

Paste a Discord webhook URL, add one endpoint in Stripe, and your server sees each sale, each new subscriber and each failed payment as a clean embed. No bot to host.

Getting the webhook address of your Discord channel

  1. In Discord, open the settings of the channel (the cog next to its name). You need the "Manage Webhooks" permission on the server.
  2. Open Integrations, then Webhooks, and click New Webhook.
  3. Click Copy Webhook URL. It starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/. Paste it above.

The message arrives as an embed with a coloured edge: green for money in, red for a failed payment or a dispute, amber for a refund or a scheduled cancellation. It is posted under the name "Stripe"; the avatar is the one you gave the webhook in Discord.

Then, on the Stripe side

  1. After connecting, you get an endpoint address. In your Stripe dashboard, under Developers → Webhooks, add it as an endpoint. Test mode is a good place to start.
  2. Select the events you care about. The dashboard of your connection lists ten that cover payments, failures, subscriptions, refunds and disputes.
  3. Copy the signing secret Stripe shows for the endpoint (it starts with whsec_) and paste it in the dashboard. Events are verified from then on.

Questions

Do I need a bot?
No. A Discord webhook is enough: it is created in the settings of the channel and needs no bot, no token and no hosting.
Can I point Stripe at the Discord webhook directly?
No. Discord expects its own message format and refuses a raw Stripe event. Something has to read the event and write the message, which is what this does, after checking the signature.
Will my members see customer emails?
The message shows what Stripe put in the event, which usually includes the email address of the customer. Use a private channel for payment messages, or connect only a staff channel.
